Home / Rules

Every entrant accepts the rules of the event on entry. The full rules are published as a downloadable document. The rules that most often catch runners out are set out below.

The 2027 Rules, General Information and Guidelines cover entries and fees, refunds and substitutions, cut-off times, compulsory kit and the disclaimer every entrant accepts.

For all enquiries, please contact Annalize Geldenhuys at annalize@rhodesrun.co.za or +27 74 203 0162.

Prefer to enter by form and pay by EFT? Download the 2027 entry form (PDF), complete it and email it with your proof of payment to annalize@rhodesrun.co.za. Online entries open on 16 October 2026.

Cut off times

Check points and tags

Runners must ensure that the timekeepers at each check point record their entry and exit.

If you retire from the race you must hand your race tags to the timekeeper at one of the official check points or at the finish. If you retire without handing in your tags, or you do not hand in your tags at a check point, you will be regarded as lost. A search and rescue team will be dispatched and the cost of that search and rescue will be billed to you.

Mandatory kit

Every runner must carry, for the full duration of the run, the emergency survival blanket issued at registration, their own whistle and a rigid or collapsible heat proof cup. Kit checks may take place on the route, and a runner without all three items receives a 60 minute time penalty, served on the spot.

We are strictly disposable product free at our feed stations, which is why the cup is not optional.

The route

The route may vary due to conditions and no GPX file is provided. The route is marked and there is crew at every critical turn point. Runners must follow the marked route.

Poles and equipment

Hiking and trekking poles are permitted.

Clothing left on the route

Additional clothing may be left at any feed station and should be clearly marked. Every effort is made to return it to the finish, but the organisers are not liable for losses. Clothing not collected on the Saturday after the awards is donated to the local community.

Permanent numbers

A permanent number confers no privileges on the holder and does not automatically qualify the holder to run in future races.
